We made a basic envelope of the robot using CAD.
The red is the harvester, the blue is the conveyor belt, and the green is the shooter. The harvester gets balls to the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt moves balls to the shooter, and stores the balls until they can be shot. The shooter shoots the balls.
PTC Windchill
- As of now, we have still not successfully used windchill to update our models within team members
Methods we used to test:
- Person 1 creates a part in Creo
- Save and upload part into PTC Windchill Cabinet
- Person 2 comes and opens the file onto a different computer (This part works)
- Person 1 checks out the model, and then edits it. Then he saves and uploads it back onto the windchill cabinet
- Person 2 goes to file-open-update current model. NOTHING HAPPENS (Also doesnt work if Person 2 is the one to edit the model)
- Person 3 comes and opens the file on his computer. IT WORKS
- We have contacted Scott on the PTC Creo Windchill Forums to clarify on the answers we got on our previous post on the forums.
PTC Windchill New Update
Scott did not respond to my email-
Hello,
This is Justin from TechnicBots. We have already made a post about the issue we are currently having here PTC Windchill Workspace Unable to Update Models . However, we are not able to understand the answers that we got, and we were wondering if you could help us out.
So after testing for many hours, the main problem we are running into deals with how team members are not able to see changes that have been made to a part. We have our parts checked into windchill, and it seems as if windchill is not recognizing the changes we make after we save and upload.
Regarding the 2 answers we got from our previous post, we are confused on what exactly David Schenken was referring to when he talked about “Windchill client defaults to keeping changed objects and not updating” and what the “ADD” option he talks about is.
Sorry for this long and probably confusing question, but we would really appreciate any answers we could get.
Thanks,
TechnicBots

However, after looking around, I found out how to edit configuration data management.
- File – Options -Configuration Editor
- Add a new configuration for “dm_overwrite_contents_on_update” set to “yes”.

Another setting I had changed was on the windchill server, where I had set the configuration specification to only display “released” assemblies and parts. However, I do not know what it actually does.
Testing Results
After me and Jerry tested, we realized that
- After I created a model, I would have to save and upload then Check in.
- Jerry would then be able to open the file on his computer and everything would be good
- I would then change the model on my computer and save upload then check in.
- Jerry would update it on his computer and it worked
However, if we were to repeat the process another time, it would never update again.
